He said he'd felt it for a couple of weeks off and on. He knows we're scuffling. If he could, I think he'd try to hit for us, too, that's just his makeup -- so he didn't want to say anything.

It was pretty special. It was a great way to show how to not set the tempo. That's probably the one thing this club could not afford to have today.

Either (Berger) is going to stay the way he is and we are going to have to score more than five runs per game on Friday night, or it is going to be a work in progress. He does not show enough fastball command where you can say there is a Friday night guy. Our guy has the ability.

It's not a far-fetched idea that one of these guys may show up with their sons one day on a Little League field built with those proceeds.

It's hard to measure what you really are doing if you're playing bad people. When you're playing good people you get a chance to figure things out pretty quickly.

It may not bode well for having a sparkling win-loss record at the end of the year, but you make or break yourself with what you do in the Pac-10.

It makes life easier, doesn't it? It makes our team easier when they -- for lack of a better word -- produce. It takes a lot of the strain off.

That's frustrating. If you have a club that's going to hit 40 to 60 home runs, then you can take that. But you don't want to make mistakes in the air.

They all get to that point now. I don't think your season ends tomorrow if you don't win. But you're definitely going in the wrong direction.
